Short explanation

An authentication flaw exists in the Client-Initiated Backchannel Authentication (CIBA) implementation within the keycloak-services component of Keycloak, allowing public clients to bypass security requirements. This issue stems from a failure to verify whether a client is authorized to use the CIBA flow.

Why does it matter?

An attacker can trick a user into approving a login request, eventually gaining full access to the user account without needing a client secret.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Apply available updates
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Keycloak keycloak-services bileşenindeki CIBA uygulamasında istemci yetkilendirmesinin doğrulanmaması nedeniyle gizlilik ihlali ve hesapların ele geçirilmesi riski oluşmaktadır.

Saldırganlar bu açığı kullanarak halka açık istemcilerin istemci sırrı gerektirmeksizin güvenlik gereksinimlerini atlamasını sağlayabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

A flaw was found in the Client-Initiated Backchannel Authentication CIBA implementation within the keycloak-services component of Keycloak. This component handles advanced authentication flows where a client initiates a login on behalf of a user. The issue occurs because Keycloak fails to verify that a client is authorized to use the CIBA flow, allowing public clients to bypass security requirements. An attacker could use this flaw to trick a user into approving a login request, eventually gaining full access to the users account without needing a client secret.
