Short explanation
ConvertX contains a path traversal vulnerability in the ImageMagick converter due to the unsanitized convert_to parameter (S0). Authenticated or appropriately configured unauthenticated users can write converted output to arbitrary container paths, risking file overwrites or denial of service (S0).
This vulnerability allows attackers to escape the intended output directory and write files to arbitrary container paths, threatening file integrity and service availability (S0).
What should be done?
- Update the software to version 0.18.0 (S0).
- Follow vendor advisory recommendations (S0).
Chain of evidence and sources
ConvertX ImageMagick dönüştürücüsü, doğrulanmamış convert_to parametresiyle dosya yolu geçişine izin verir (S0).
Saldırganlar /convert aracılığıyla dizin geçiş dizileri kullanarak çıktı dosyası yolunu değiştirebilir (S0).
Bu güvenlik açığı 0.18.0 sürümünde giderilmiştir (S0).
Show the technical text from the sources
ConvertX is a self-hosted file conversion service. Prior to 0.18.0, the ImageMagick converter uses the unsanitized convert_to parameter to construct an output path. If an authenticated user, or an unauthenticated user when ConvertX is configured to allow unauthenticated access, uploads an extensionless image and supplies directory traversal sequences in convert_to through /convert, the constructed path escapes the intended output directory, allowing the attacker to write converted output to arbitrary container paths, potentially overwriting files or causing denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 0.18.0.
