Short explanation

The WP Testimonials WordPress plugin up to version 1.4.13 fails to escape testimonial content and reverses WordPress’s HTML sanitization when rendering the wp‑testimonials shortcode. Users with the Author role or higher can store JavaScript that runs in the browser of any visitor viewing the testimonials, including administrators.

Why does it matter?

Successful XSS can let an attacker hijack admin sessions, steal credentials, or perform actions as the victim, compromising the site’s integrity.

What should be done?

  • Apply vendor-provided fix when available
  • Restrict Author role to trusted users
  • Sanitize testimonial input or use security plugin/WAF
  • Monitor logs for suspicious script injections
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

WP Testimonials 1.4.13 ve önceki sürümleri, Author rolündeki ve üzerindeki kullanıcıların wp‑testimonials kısa kodu aracılığıyla depolanmış XSS istismarına izin verir.

Yama durumu resmi kaynaklarda doğrulanamadı; yama değerlendirmesi UNKNOWN olarak işaretlenmiştir.

Show the technical text from the sources

The WP Testimonials WordPress plugin through 1.4.13 does not properly escape testimonial content and reverses WordPress's HTML sanitization when rendering it, allowing users with the Author role and above to store JavaScript that executes in the session of any user viewing the testimonials, including administrators.
